PARIS, March 20, 2021 – The digital transition of the health sector is more than ever underway. Like the French SantExpo show, whose 2021 edition has been 100% digitalized, professionals in the field are increasingly turning to new technologies as part of their activities. In this regard, hospitals are on the front line, such as this hospital centre engaged in the digitization of its archives with Kodak Alaris.
Engaged in a "Zero Paper" approach, a Territorial Hospital Group (THG) bringing together four institutions in northern France, launched a tender in 2019 for the digitisation of its 86 km of physical archives. Kodak Alaris, a specialist in digital transformation, was selected to carry out this project, offering tailor-made support and solutions in line with the THG's needs, namely Kodak Capture Pro Software and the Kodak i5850s Scanners, deployed in only 3 months.
Well-known problems in health care institutions
In addition, the digitization of the archives of the various Hospital Centers (HC) forming the THG requires the consideration of several parameters. Since the documents come from health facilities, they are treated in particular, with limited access to data according to the profiles of professionals. Moreover, some archives are in very poor condition and not sorted. However, thanks to Kodak Alaris' solutions, the preparation of documents before they are digitized is carried out automatically by the machine, requiring no prior sorting. They are then transferred to a scanning chain directly managed by dedicated operators, in order to validate the conformity of the images with the originals.
Towards a tree structure common to the different hospitals of the territory
In addition to responding to a problem of space gain, this THG initiative also aims to put in place a more efficient archiving policy, common to the different hospitals. The project thus encompasses medical and administrative archives, sorted according to clearly defined classification plans. The goal: to bring more coherence and security to the THG archiving system, in a time of health crisis where the proper treatment of patient data is a top priority.

While the THG archive digitization project will not be finalized until 5 years from now, the functionalities of the solutions deployed by Kodak Alaris have already demonstrated their effectiveness. In particular, Capture Pro's features (document scanning and automatic indexing for optimal integration into the archiving system) have been widely emphasized by the THG teams.
