Kodak Alaris to Deliver FADGI-compliant Scanners to Federal Agencies

Kodak Alaris can help you procure and deploy FADGI-compliant scanners ahead of the December 31, 2022 deadline.

Kodak Alaris scanners, widely regarded as the gold standard for image quality and accurate data extraction, will support the standards and requirements of the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI)⧉. This important federal initiative is designed “to articulate common sustainable practices and guidelines for digitized and born digital historical, archival, and cultural content.”

The agencies leading the effort, most notably the Library of Congress and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) published these guidelines to ensure uniform quality for all records maintained by participating agencies and to set standards and benchmarks for manufacturers that wish to serve these agencies.

The primary emphasis is to digitize all existing paper records (and other analog media) and require all new incoming records to be digital, ensuring compliance with the federal mandate known as M-19-21. Such an immense and varied effort requires the establishment of quality standards to be successful and sustainable.

Kodak Alaris will provide GSA-approved scanners that will meet appropriate FADGI guidelines, which establish a ranking from 1 to 4 stars depending on a variety of quality factors, media types, and use cases.

As a six-time winner of the Buyer’s Lab Scanner Line of the Year award, Kodak Alaris is proud to lead the scanner industry in terms of image quality, highly accurate data extraction, and successful process automation. Kodak Alaris scanners are known in the industry to produce the best image possible, and we will continue to produce technology that aligns with federal guidelines to ensure that our customers in the government space are producing electronic records that meet and exceed FADGI requirements.

All federal digitization projects and entities interacting with the Library of Congress and National Archives administration will need all digital records to meet FADGI 3-star requirements by the end of 2022, and it’s likely that these digital standards will eventually extend to all federal agencies over time.
